Irfan Pathan has shared his first impressions of a young Virat Kohli who broke into the scene in 2008 and enjoyed a lot of praise and recognition since his first season in the IPL. Kohli made his IPL debut in 2008, for RCB and has stayed on with the team since, after leading India to a win in the 2008 U-19 World Cup.
Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has recalled those days when he played alongside a young Kohli, who was later made the captain of the RCB in 2013. Pathan has remembered how Kohli was all over the news and made it to page 3.
"Whenever I used to see Virat Kohli in the IPL, I only saw one player. Someone who was young, has reached a certain level and is now enjoying himself on and off the field.
"The next morning when you opened the newspaper, he was everywhere, on Page 3 you see him," Pathan said in a video shared by Star Sports on Twitter.
The former India pacer added that despite the unimaginable amount of fame that Kohli received at a young age, he remained focused on his game and that marks his commitment to the great sport.
"But he never sidelined cricket, and always kept his focus. That's why you see Virat Kohli has become such a special player. It shows his commitment to the game."
