Two seats were vacant after the death of SP leader and former Leader of Opposition Ahmed Hasan and the resignation of former MLC Jayveer Singh Thakur. The BJP fielded its candidates to help the OBC and Dalit equation. In this, the BJP gave ticket to Nirmala Paswan, Vice President of Kashi region on the seat vacated by the resignation of Gorakhpur region president Dharmendra Singh and Jayveer Singh on the seat vacated by the death of Ahmed Hasan. The special thing is that SP had filed nomination of Kirti Cole in front of Dharmendra Singh. But the nomination was rejected due to the age of his candidate being less than 30 years. After which both were decided to be elected unopposed.
