Today is Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s Birth Anniversary

Today on 31st October 2021 is Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel‘s 146th Birth Anniversary and as well as the National Day of Unity (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas).

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Home Minister of India.

The National Day of Unity is celebrated on 31st October 2021 in India in memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Before and after the independence of India, He did integrate about 500 princely states into the Union of India.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is also called the Iron Man (Lauh Purush) of India.

  1. A 182-meter high iron statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel has been constructed in front of the Sardar Sarovar Dam of Narmada in Gujarat. This statue has been named Statue of Unity.
  2. Sardar Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat.
  3. He was the fourth child of Jhaver Bhai and Ladba Patel, who lived in Karmsad in Kheda district.
  4. Sardar Vallabhbhai was married to Jhaberba.
  5. When Patel was only 33 years old, his wife passed away.
  6. He started opposing injustice from his school days.
  7. He passed the 10th examination at the age of 22.
  8. Sardar Patel had borrowed books from a lawyer he knew and started studying law at home.
  9. Patel, who was leading the Bardoli Satyagraha, was conferred the title of ‘Sardar’ by the women there on the success of the Satyagraha.
  10. Sardar Patel was a staunch opponent of casteism and class discrimination.
  11. Even after studying law in England, his attitude was not towards earning money.
  12. Sardar Patel started his law practice in Ahmedabad in 1913.
  13. At the behest of his friends, Patel contested the election of Ahmedabad’s Sanitation Commissioner in 1917 and he also won.
  14. Sardar Patel was greatly influenced by the success of Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha.
  15. His first priority as Home Minister was to integrate the princely states (states) into India. He did this work without shedding blood.
  16. He is known as the ‘Iron Man’ of India for his great contribution in the integration of India.
  17. In 1991, 41 years after the death of Sardar Patel, he was awarded Bharat Ratna, India’s highest national award.
  18. This award was accepted by his grandson Vipinbhai Patel.
  19. When he died in Mumbai on 5 December 1950, only Rs 260 was present in his bank account.
  20. Sardar Patel did not even have a house of his own. They lived in a rented house in Ahmedabad.
