On the day of the Indian Premier League opener, Rahul Dravid went viral on social media. The former India captain sent his fans into a tizzy, donning a never-seen-before avatar for an advertisement for the IPL 2021 season.
Rahul Dravid, known as one of the nicest and calmest cricketers to have played the sport, was the complete opposite in the advertisement for the credit card payment app. Dravid was at his uncharacteristic best as he can be spotted shouting at fellow commuters at a traffic signal.
Dravid loses his cool so much so that he smashes a coffee cup into the wind shield of a nearby car. Dravid then takes a bat and smashes the side-view mirror of another car out of frustration.
"Indiranagar ka gunda hun main," yells Rahul Dravid as he creates a stir at the traffic signal in the viral advertisement.
Popular food delivery application Zomato rode the wave and made sure they caught the attention of their customers with a cheeky tweet on Rahul Dravid's viral ad.
"deliveries in Indiranagar might be late today due to an angry gunda on the road," Zomato said in a cheeky post.
However, Zomato had to issue a clarification, saying some of their customers took their post seriously.
"It has come to our attention that some people took this seriously. There is no gunda on the roads, there might be a wall tho (sic)," Zomato added.
'Sorry, I lost my temper'
Nonetheless, Dravid had a message for his fans with the description of the advertisement.
"Hi, this is Rahul Dravid writing the description for this video. Sorry, I lost my temper there. I am meditating these days. Well, I am just writing this to let you know that CRED truly rewards you every time you pay your credit card bills on time. They are good people."
Popular standup comedian Tanmay Bhat wrote this ad along with Devaiah Bopanna, Puneet Chadha, Nupur Pai, and Vishal Dayama. Ayappa KM, founder, Early Man Film directed it.
The commercial and Dravid's acting in it has left even the likes of Virat Kohli, who played under his captaincy at Royal Challengers Bangalore, and T Natarajan pleasantly surprised.
