Presidential election: Draupadi Murmu leads

New Delhi: NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is leading in the 15th presidential election in the country. Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Modi informed that Murmu won 540 votes of MPs. A total of 748 votes were polled in Parliament. In this, opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha got 208 votes.

The value of votes received by Murmu is 3,78,000. Yashwant Sinha got 1,45,600 votes worth from Parliament. After the counting of votes in the Parliament is over, the counting of votes in the state legislatures is in progress. The counting of votes will take place in Room 63 of the Parliament House.

After the results came out, the victory celebration started in Rairangpur, Odisha, Murmu's hometown.

Counting of votes started at 11 am. Voting was held on 18th of this month. More than 4,000 people voted in the election with a voter turnout of 99.18 percent.

First, the votes of the MLAs and then the MPs are separated and the votes of the candidates are counted in separate trays. The tenure of the current President Ram Nath Kovind will end on the 24th of this month. Draupadi Murmu was assured of victory as some opposition parties also declared their support.
