Pratap Pothen RIP
Veteran actor and director Pratap Pothen (70) passed away in Chennai on Friday morning (Pratap Pothen Passed Away). It is reported that he breathed his last at his residence. He was last seen in Mammootty starrer CBI5 The Brain which released earlier this year. Pratap acted in movies like Thakara, Chamaram and 22 Female Kottayam. Pratap Pothen's last directorial film was the 1997 film Oru Yatramoli starring Mohanlal and Shivaji Ganesan. While working in Malayalam cinema, Pratap Pothen also acted in Tamil and Telugu films. He won the National Award for directing the 1985 film Meendum Oru Kathal Kathai. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Thakara starring Pratap Pothen, Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Chamaram in 1980, Indira Gandhi for Best Director for Mindum Oru Kathal Kathai in 1985 and Filmfare Award for Best Director for Ritubhedam in 1987.
As far as his personal is concerned.. Pratap married actress Radhika in 1985. However, their marriage did not last long. The couple divorced in 1986. He then remarried in 1990 to Amala Satyanath, a senior corporate professional. Keya was born to the couple in 1991. They also divorced in 2012 after 22 years. Many celebrities and elders were shocked by the death of Pratap Pothen. May his soul rest in peace. Deepest condolences to the family.
