Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil star Neymar has been banned for two Ligue 1 matches after being sent off in their loss to title rivals Lille last weekend, the French league said Wednesday.
Neymar was given two yellow cards, the second for a late push on Lille’s Tiago Djalo, who was also sent off in the match.
The Brazilian then also tried to confront Djalo again in the hallway leading to the dressing rooms.
After the French league announced the two-game ban, Neymar will now miss his side’s key clashes against Strasbourg (April 10) and the match against struggling Saint-Etienne on April 18.
Each match at this stage will be important for the defending champions as they sit three points behind new Ligue 1 leaders Lille with seven matches remaining.
It was Neymar’s second sending off of the campaign, and his fourth in as many seasons since joining PSG from Barcelona.
PSG beat Bayern Munich
On Wednesday night, however, Neymar was at his best in the UEFA Champions League clash against defending champions Bayern Munich and had two splendid assists, setting up Kylian Mbappe in the 4th minute and then later playing on to PSG skipper Marquinhos, who scored a goal in the 28th minute.
Bayern fought back to level the match at 2-2 with amazing headers from Mueller and Choupo-Moting, but Mbappe scored another to give the visitors a 3-2 win in the first leg of the quarter-final clash at the Allianz Arena.
