England's star all-rounder Ben Stokes has surprised himself and the opposition teams many times in his cricket career so far. Cricket fans have been shocked. Sometimes on-field performance and sometimes off-field action. A new entry in this list happened on Monday 18 July, when he suddenly decided to retire from ODI cricket. Everyone was surprised by this decision of Stokes. Stokes had told the reasons behind his retirement at that time itself, but when the thought of retirement came to his mind for the first time, it has been disclosed a day later and its connection is with Team India.

The first match of the ODI series between England and South Africa on Tuesday 19 July was the last match of Stokes's ODI career. Before this match, while talking to Sky Sports, Stokes explained the reasons for his decision. Former England captain and famous commentator Nasir Hussain, who was interviewing Stokes, asked when he thought of retirement, in response to which Stokes said that he realized this after the first match of the ODI series against India.
Realized after that match

31-year-old Ben Stokes said in his reply, I always knew that I would have to choose between two formats of the white ball, but did not know which would be. Then after that ODI match (first match against India) I realized it. Then after the match I immediately spoke to Joss (captain Joss Butler) and said that if the match situation had been different, I would have bowled more. Then we talked for five minutes and Joss said that you have no debt to the team. There is a lot of cricket left for you and hence you need to take care of yourself.
Shami had finished the game in the first ODI

The ODI series against India was not good for England and the team had to face defeat. Stokes' performance was also not good in the series. In the first ODI that Stokes talked about, the entire team was bundled out for just 110 runs. The match was not good for Stokes himself and he was dismissed without opening the account off Mohammed Shami.
