JMM supremo Shibu Soren's notice of Lokpal: Case related to disproportionate assets, directed to appear on August 25
India's Lokpal has directed Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) President and Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren to appear on August 25 in the case related to the complaint of disproportionate assets. A bench of Justice Abhilasha Kumari (Judicial Member) and members Mahendra Singh and Indrajit P. Gautam passed the order on August 4 after hearing the case.
has said in the order of its four pages that In the opinion of Lokpal under consideration, action should be initiated against Shibu Soren under Section 20 (3), so that it can be determined whether there is a prima facie case to take action against the public servant. > Directed to issue notice under Section 20 (3) of the Lokpal Act so that he could protect the allegations in person or through his lawyer. A complaint was filed against Soren on August 5, 2020 that he and his and his Family members are largely involved in corruption. He has acquired a large assets in proportion to "known and declared sources of income and many commercial and residential assets in his name" by misusing government treasures in the state of Jharkhand. The full bench of Lokpal directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the case under Section 20 (1) (A) of the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013 on 15 September 2020.
The CBI submitted a report on 1 July, in which the details of the assets of the names of Shibu Soren and his family members have also attached. On July 2021, the order passed that comments/documents should be sought from the defendants. The Lokpal has said in his order that he gave time to Shibu Soren on several occasions to file his reply and the necessary documents were also provided. The reply was finally filed on 4 April this year. The Lokpal directed the CBI to investigate the reply and submit the investigation report. Meanwhile, comments were sought from the competent officer of Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren.
Additional Director of Rajya Sabha Secretariat informed that the Rajya Sabha Chairman has no comment on the allegations made in the complaint. The CBI filed a final preliminary inquiry report on June 29, 2022, which was found to be quite detailed by the Lokpal.
