Aftab Shivdasani, a renowned Indian actor, is a fan of the Indian Premier like many other stars in the Bollywood industry. His excitement ahead of the 14th edition of the marquee T20 league shows how important the IPL is to the country and the fans.

According to Aftab, IPL -which is the most popular T20 event in the world- has been a ‘revelation’ to the sport and to the nation. The idea that a family can sit together and enjoy the IPL is what makes it so close to the heart.

“IPL is a revelation, it’s perhaps the biggest- if not the biggest championship since the inception of the IPL. Whoever knew that it’s going to take the cricketing world by a storm. You know, when you think of T20, the IPL is right up there in terms of popularity charts. It’s got everything you need,” Aftab Shivdasani told Boria Majumdar on Sports Today.

“It’s got fantastic cricket at the highest level, it’s got a base and a platform to nurture the incredible talent coming out of this country. It’s got our Indian flag, our Indian-ness stamped all over it. It’s a matter of pride that it comes from India and you have international players playing in the IPL.”

“And such an amazing visual spectacle- it’s baithe baithe home entertainment for the people. It’s a creation of amazing camaraderie from cricketers all over the world. Before IPL I never thought of seeing Indian, Australian, South Africa cricketers playing together for a team,” he added.

The IPL 2021 season starts on April 9 (Friday) with five-time champions Mumbai Indians taking on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.
