  • Dinesh Karthik fell down on his knees while trying to save himself from a shot from batting partner Andre Russell
  • KKR players played an intra-squad match at DY Patil Stadium on Saturday
  • 2-time champions KKR will play their 1st match of IPL 2021 against SRH on April 11

Dinesh Karthik was down on his knees while trying to save himself from a powerful strike from his batting partner Andre Russell in Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) intra-squad match at Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.

KKR have posted a video of the same on their official Twitter handle. In the 13-second video, Russell can be seen using all his muscle power for striking the ball straight down ground. The power and timing behind the shot gives his batting partner a very little time to get out of the way. However, Dinesh Karthik manages to save himself narrowly but only after falling down on his knees.

"That was one hell of a shot," a commentator can be heard saying.

The players of the side played the match after completing their mandatory 7-day quarantine period. Notably, KKR batsman Nitish Rana served an extended quarantine period of 12 days after testing positive during his hotel quarantine. The batsman tested negative on the 11th and 12th day and has joined the team bio-bubble now.

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also completed his isolation period on Saturday. KKR shared pictures of their new-recruit from the training ground.

Shakib Al Hasan and Harbhajan Singh were two of the biggest names to join the 2-time champions after the IPL 2021 mini-auction held in February this year.

The Eoin Morgan-led side will play their first match of IPL 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 11 in Chennai.
