India opener Prithvi Shaw on Wednesday talked up his equation with Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting, saying he is excited to have the Australian legend back in the dressing room at Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Prithvi Shaw made a special mention of the much-talked-about pep talks from Ricky Ponting, likening them to the ones that Shah Rukh Khan's Kabir Khan character delivers in the popular Hindi film, Chak De! India.

Ricky Ponting makes it a habit to have a pep talk before and after IPL matches. As revealed in some beautifully-executed social media videos by the Delhi Capitals, Ponting often delivers rousing dressing room speeches, giving away his own Man of the Match awards after evey IPL encounter.

"The boss is back. He is a very nice person. On the field, he is like a boss, off the field he is like a friend. I think he is a very nice person. Let's see how it goes (this year).

"Absolutely, I think when Ricky sir speaks, it should be played in the background. Shah Rukh Khan's song," Shaw told Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.

Shaw's comments come days after Ricky Ponting heaped praise on the Delhi Capitals opener before healing to India for IPL 2021. Notably, Ponting also revealed an interesting tidbit about the young opener, saying he does not bat at the nets when he is not scoring runs in the middle.

"He had an interesting theory on his batting last year. When he's not scoring runs, he won't bat, and when he is scoring runs, he wants to keep batting all the time. He had four or five games where he made under ten and I'm telling him, 'We have to go to the nets and work out [what's wrong]', and he looked me in the eye and said, 'No, I'm not batting today'. I couldn't really work that out," Ponting had told cricket.com.au.

Shaw is unlikely to do so this year as he has been in fine form in the lead up to IPL 2021. Shaw overcame an ordinary Australia tour and hit peak form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as he hit a record-breaking 827 runs in 8 matches, leading Mumbai to the title in the 50-over domestic competition.

Delhi Capitals will be led by Rishabh Pant in IPL 2021. The finalists from last year will take on Chennai Super Kings in their opening match in Mumbai on April 10.
