Punjab Kings' 22-year-old pacer Ishan Porel aims to take the wicket of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The youngster was part of PBKS setup in the last season as well but did not get a chance to ply his trade. The Hooghly-born cricketer said that he fulfilled his goal of scalping his captain KL Rahul's wicket in a Ranji Trophy match and now aims to dismiss the 'number one batsman' in all the three formats of the game.

"On a funnier side, I got KL bhai out in a Ranji Trophy match, so I've ticked that box. And obviously Rohit Sharma is great off fast bowling. He can hit those good length balls with ease. Obviously, picking those wickets would be a dream-come-true for me because I've seen them win matches for India while growing up. But yes, I would like to take the wicket of Virat Kohli because he is the No. 1 batsman in all three formats," Ishan Porel told Hindustan Times.

The batsman has been impressive from the last few years and grabbed the attention of selectors by performing consistently in domestic cricket. With 13 wickets in 5 matches, he was the 5th highest wicket-taker in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. He also had the chance of travelling with the Indian team to Australia as a net bowler after the IPL 2020.

Talking about that experience, Porel said that bowling to the likes of Virat kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul helped him learn immensely. He concluded saying that Punjab Kings bowlers will have to execute their plannings in a better way to put up a good show in IPL 2021.

"I bowled a lot. I was in Dubai so I joined the Indian team there and got some 3-4 sessions there. I was in Australia for 10 days, where I bowled a lot. It was a learning experience because bowling to such great and quality batsmen of the calibre of Virat bhai, KL bhai although I had bowled to him earlier during the Punjab Kings nets bowling to them and Rohit Sharma, was a huge lesson. The mindset, the thinking and the execution part needs to be bang on target," he said.
