Illegal animal slaughter banned on Eid in Assam!
Assam News Desk !! The Assam Home Department in a notification on Friday directed officials to take steps to check illegal killing of animals, including cows, on the occasion of Eid. Joint Secretary K.K. Sharma has written a letter to all the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police in the state to take measures to prevent illegal killing of cows, calves and other animals during the upcoming Eid. He has also recommended action against criminals for violating animal rules on Eid. Sharma has cited references to letters from the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying of the central government.
AWBI communication sent to all states on June 7 mentions that a large number of animals are likely to be slaughtered during Eid. But, while transporting animals, some owners of animals do not follow the laws that result in cruelty to animals. Also, as per the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules, 2001, camels cannot be killed for food at all. Also, wherever the Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act is in force, the slaughter of cows should not be allowed at all.
