Starting the second innings of married life, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will tie the knot in a simple ceremony at his Chandigarh residence on Thursday, July 7. 48-year-old Bhagwant Mann will marry Gurpreet Kaur, a doctor by profession. Born in 1993, Gurpreet Kaur completed her MBBS from Maharishi Markandeshwar University located in Mulana, Haryana. Apart from his family members, party's top leader and national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia along with his family will be present on this occasion.

Bhagwant Mann got divorced from his first wife Inderpreet Kaur in 2015. From that marriage, Mann has a son Dilshan and daughter Seerat, who live with their mother in America. Bhagwant Mann will be the first CM of Punjab to get married while in the post of Chief Minister. Chief Minister Mann's relationship with Gurpreet Kaur has been made by his mother and sister. 'Anand Karaj' will be held at the Chief Minister's residence in Chandigarh on Thursday afternoon, in which Granthi of Gurdwara Sahib, Sector-8, Chandigarh will get Lawan (Peras) done. It is worth mentioning that according to Sikh customs, the bride and groom tie the knot by performing four rounds (rounds) in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Sikhism has a tradition of performing the ritual of Anand Karaj (marriage) in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Under this tradition, the groom's side first appears before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and after that the bride arrives with her family. Then the granthis conduct Ardas on behalf of both the sides. The father of the bride hands over his daughter's pallu to the groom. After this, the bride and groom circumambulate Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji four times and during this, the granthi and the ragi recite kirtan. In the final stage, the word 'Vivah Hoya Mere Babula' is recited and Ardas takes place. Signatures of the bride and groom and their parents are made in the register. Later the certificate is given under the Sikh Marriage Act.

The wedding of Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Kaur will take place at the Chief Minister's residence on Thursday in a simple ceremony, whose preparations have been entrusted to Aam Aadmi Party's state president Raghav Chadha. In this ceremony, only selected and special people of the family have been invited. The ceremony will take place under the supervision of Raghav Chadha.

Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, the wife of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, hails from Pehowa, Haryana. The two families are already close. Dr. Gurpreet Kaur's father Inderjit Singh is the former sarpanch of village Madanpur in Nat Pehowa block. Presently his family lives in Mohali while Gurpreet Kaur lives in Rajpura. Gurpreet Kaur's two sisters in her family are settled in America and Australia. Gurpreet Kaur's uncle Advocate Gurvinder Jeet Singh Nat had joined the Aam Aadmi Party only last month. He also contested the 1991 elections from Pehowa assembly as an independent candidate. He has also been close to senior Congress leader and former minister Harmohindra Singh Chatha. Later he left the Congress and joined the Aam Aadmi Party.
